Roles that do not require any sport experience
Start team assistants
To work with the Start Team Leader and carry our one of several different checking processes such as making sure the rider has a bell, and that they have cleared and checked their SI card. You do not need to have orienteering experience for this role, but it is an active and responsible role and you need to concentrate to make sure you don’t miss anyone. Four to eight roles per morning on Wednesday 9th September (at Rosiesle x4), Thursday 10th (at Sanquhar x4), Friday 11th (at Lossiemouth x8) and Saturday 12th (at Darnaway x4). Time commitment approx 3-4 hours.
Event Registration Assistants (full)
At Glasgow School of Art, Altyre Estate, Forres on Tuesday 8th September. Welcoming international and national competitors, issuing race numbers. Option to also help on the first event day, Wednesday 9th at Roseisle, dealing with late registrations.
Car park helpers
To work with other volunteers to welcome competitors and help marshal them into orderly rows and make best use of the available car park space. Three roles per morning on Tuesday 8th (at Altyre), Wednesday 9th September (at Rosiesle), Thursday 10th (at Sanquhar) and Saturday 12th (at Darnaway). Time commitment approx 2.5 hours per day.
Map collection at finish
This is an active and responsible role working in a team of 3 in a short, action-packed shift that runs in the window from first finisher to final starter (times tbc). To retrieve maps from finishers immediately after they finish and write their race number on their map. We then keep maps securely so that any competitors who have not yet started do not have sight of a competition map. Once the race start has closed, you will support competitors when they return to reclaim their own map by presenting their race number.
Start List Coordinator (full)
To collaborate with the Entries Secretary for a few hours in the window between entries closing and event time (dates tbc) and help cross-check entry data such as IOF number, SI number and class. And to produce start lists for each day. Enthusiasm for spreadsheets and attention to detail essential!
Medal Ceremony Coordinator
To organise a short, professional and respectful medal ceremony and clearly announce the names of the winners. A calm, confident person who is happy to lead the ceremony and announce the names of the medallists. You would need to manage a light-weight podium, collate and understand the final results, prepare the trophies. You will be accompanied by an elite athlete who will hand over the prizes.
Race number production – new
To research and source durable race numbers that competitors cable tie to their bikes. Exact specification and total to be printed can be discussed and agreed.
